COMPOSER
DIGITAL LUTHIER
SOUND ENGINEER
Mari Yasero is a composer, digital luthier, and sound engineer based in the Netherlands and Iceland. Her work is characterised by imaginative sound constructed realities, weaving together organic and artificial elements, blurring the lines between reality and surreality. Drawing inspiration from natural landscapes, electromagnetic fields, traditional instruments, and sound synthesis, Mari creates intricate sonic tapestries using a multichannel speaker system. Her recent compositions focus on environmental themes and the development of interactive sonic ecosystems that explore the relationships between body, sound, and space.
Mari's artistic practice is deeply rooted in interdisciplinary collaboration. Her collaborative works with dancers, musicians, film-makers, visual artists and computer engineers aim to bridge diverse areas of expertise and creative approaches. One of Mari's recent notable works is a site-specific multisensory installation, Poločas Přeměny (Half-time of Transformation), that was created in collaboration with visual artist Dominika Kunzová. This installation aims to create a deeper connection with glaciers and their disappearing memory, while capturing the sense of transformation, uncertainty, and instability. For this piece, Mari was awarded the Gold Award at an international student competition held by the Audio Engineering Society, recognising her innovative approach in the category of Modern Studio Recording and Electronic Music.
Currently, Mari is conducting research at the Royal Conservatoire The Hague, exploring the role of bodily movement and its translation into spatial sound applications. Her previous research and portfolio work have gained recognition and support from the Composer's Fund by RUV & STEF, Hunter's Fund, and Icelandic Student Innovation Fund.
